Protecting Your Privacy
High Point Bank and Trust Company ("High Point Bank") has always valued our customer relationships and we continue to take very seriously our duty to hold the information you provide us in strict confidence. We have prepared this document to explain what kinds of information we collect, how we use and safeguard that information, and under what circumstances we share it. - Information about your transactions with us, other companies in the High Point Bank Group or others (for example, your account balance or payment history; parties to transactions and credit or debit card usage);
- Information from third parties, including persons providing services in connection with your transactions and credit bureaus (for example, your credit history or credit worthiness from a consumer reporting agency);
- Information obtained from others to verify information provided by you, such as your employment history and credit or other relationships with third parties; and
- Information collected from our Internet websites.
How We Limit and Control the Nonpublic Information We Disclose About You
Responsible use of information benefits you because it protects your privacy. It also benefits us because it allows us to provide you with the products and services you need. Except as provided below, we will not disclose nonpublic customer information about our current or former customers outside the High Point Bank Group, unless you expressly authorize or request that we do so. High Point Bank does not provide your account or personal information to companies outside the High Point Bank Group for the purpose of independent telemarketing or direct mail marketing of non-financial products or services of those companies!
Sometimes we enter into agreements with outside companies that have expertise essential to or for our own products and services to function properly. For example, we maintain relationships with outside service providers to perform credit and debit card services, execute securities transactions, provide insurance coverage, generate account statements and other services. On occasion, we may also disclose all of the information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.
High Point Bank is very selective in choosing the vendors and service companies who provide this assistance. These companies are all contractually required to safeguard your information and to use it only for intended purposes. We may disclose to these companies the information we collect as described under the preceding heading. In accordance with standard banking practices and the Fair Credit Reporting Act, High Point Bank shares customer information with reputable information reporting agencies. High Point Bank may also sell certain products, such as mortgage loans, that are originated in the bank. As the customer information database is an integral part of that product, we reserve the right to transfer ownership of the related customer information to the purchaser. We will also disclose information that is otherwise permitted or required by a variety of state and federal laws, for example, a subpoena.
A special note: Medical information (such as information about your past or present health) that is obtained as part of an insurance application is shared only with those required to access this information to process the application. Additional standards of confidentiality protect information you provide that is related to trust and investment services.
